Elche de la Sierra, one of the area’s largest towns, is located right in the heart of the Segura Mountain Range. The ephemeral art of sawdust carpets is part of Elche’s culture and is at the centre of a festivity that has been declared of National Touristic Interest as well as an Asset of Cultural Interest. These works of art adorn the town streets that are crossed and stepped on during the traditional Corpus Christi procession.
