The ascent up to the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory is one of the great climbs in the Peninsula’s South. A climb that has only been won by truly great climbers: Roberto Heras, Igor Antón and Miguel Ángel López. In 2026, La Vuelta will return to this summit, home to the largest astronomical observatory in Europe, following a 9-year absence. It is located more than 2,100 metres above sea level.
- Calar Alto has already hosted 3 La Vuelta finish-lines.
