The streets of Armilla, considered by many to be the birthplace of cycling in Granada, served to toughen up a Tour de France winner. Joaquin Galera, who emerged victorious in Briançon in 1965, amassed an extensive victory tally with such legendary races as the Subida a Arrate, the Subida al Naranco and the Escalada a Montjuic. His brother, Manuel Galera, was also an Armilla cycling reference.
