The Alto de Aitana is one of those summits that form part of the history of La Vuelta. In 2026, it will host its fifth finish-line following a 10-year absence on the year of the 25th anniversary since it made its race debut. In 2016, in the prelude to the final stage in Madrid, the climb was the scene of an intense battle between two men fighting for the general classification, Nairo Quintana and Chris Froome, who obtained 1st and 2nd place at the Air Base.
- The Alto de Aitana has already hosted 4 La Vuelta finish-lines.
