The leader logistics company in Iberia remains loyal to its appointment with the best cycling and the values of effort and endurance associated with La Vuelta. As every summer and for the eighth consecutive year, Azkar DACHSER Group sponsors the cycling competition par excellence of Spain and it is committed to the challenge of managing an exceptional logistics operation as official transport provider. Ourense is the city chosen this year to kick off the 71st edition of the event, which starts on August 20th and ends on September 11th in Madrid.
During three weeks, around 200 professional cyclists will pedal to win one of the stages along the 3,200 kilometers of the total tour. In this sense, Azkar DACHSER Group continues its support to effort and teamwork as it sponsors the Team Classification Award. Movistar stood with this distinction in 2015. This year, 22 teams must demonstrate the resilience and courage to obtain the maillot of Azkar DACHSER Group, with which the company gives away the winning team. Similarly, the team time trial which starts the first stage of the sporting event will be sponsored by the company.
Among the 21 stages, the territories of northern and eastern Spain will be the protagonists and the radial itinerary a novelty this year, with seven stages played in Galicia and five in the Valencia region. The three straight mountain stages with finishes in La Camperona (León), Alto de Naranco and Lagos de Covadonga (both in Asturias), as well as the challenge of the French Pyrenees on arrival at Col de l'Aubisque, will put an end to this fascinating edition. A special period this time, just a few days after the closing of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, this year La Vuelta counts on the participation of the leader figures of cycling as Chris Froome –Tour de France’s last winner–, Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana and Joaquín “Purito” Rodríguez.
Unique and exceptional operational logistics
As the Official Logistics company of the competition, Azkar DACHSER Group is responsible for managing the logistics deployment of La Vuelta. Some of the provided vehicles have been tailored specifically for the occasion and become media area, medical center, control signatures, podium and VIP spaces, among others. Conventional trucks –13.6 meters in length each–, will be used to transport all fences, promotional materials and equipment necessary for assembly and disassembly the different start and finish areas. Two refrigerated trucks and a mobile kitchen inside a container close the logistical deployment of 28 vehicles, provided by Azkar DACHSER Group.
New in this edition, Azkar will have a special presence at the start of each stage. Therefore, it will place its own meeting point, easily identifiable by yellow colour and in which attendees may participate in roulette and win different gifts. It is a meeting place for cycling fans and visitors to each location, which will be located next to the signature control and starting line.
From August 20th to September 11th, Azkar DACHSER Group and La Vuelta will roll together in order to offer an epic spectacle, in which the Spanish territory will host another edition that will “thrill to the end", as expressed in the slogan of this year.
