Once again, La Vuelta is getting ready to present the official song that will accompany the race’s 72nd edition. The chosen song is “Bailarina”, by the Murcian band Maldita Nerea, which is a preview of their seventh album. The band is very much consolidated and adored within the Spanish music scene, ever present among our country’s greatest hits, with thousands of followers on social media (and off), who fill such emblematic venues as the Palacio de los Deportes de Madrid with their concerts.
Jorge Ruiz and his band will accompany the La Vuelta peloton from its departure in Nimes on the 19th of August until its arrival in Madrid on the 10th of September. The song is catchy, fresh and very danceable and has, this year, become the 40th song to join the long list of official songs for the Spanish tour. This musical and sporting tradition began in 1977 with “Singing in the Rain”, by Sheila and B. Devotion.
The song will feature a very special video, filmed in the French city of Nîmes, a candidate to join UNESCO’s World Heritage listing, where the notes and the overall sound mix in with some of the locality’s historical and architectural treasures.
Having ‘Bailarina’ become the official song of La Vuelta is a dream come true for the lead of Maldita Nerea. Jorge Ruiz, a cycling fan, is thrilled to attach his music to a sporting event that he has followed very closely since childhood.
