Maxime Monfort (Lotto Soudal): “A stage victory was clearly our goal at La Vuelta. We missed on the 17 man breakaway yesterday (stage 5). We got lectured and we could only blame ourselves. So today we wanted to rebalance things. We knew the breakaway had a strong chance of making it to the finish and that we'd need to put on a big fight to be part of this. That's how it happened. I think we handled things to the best. I went ahead so that Tomasz (Marczynski) could save some strength. And he wrapped things up perfectly.”
