Biwenger and AS present the La Vuelta Fantasy game by Carrefour
October 15 th 2020 - 16:00 [GMT + 2]
Biwenger and the Diario AS will organise the first official Fantasy cycling game of these characteristics in Spain, parallel to La Vuelta 20: Fantasy of La Vuelta by Carrefour. Although these types of interactive games have a long tradition in other sports, it will be the first time that La Vuelta has an official Fantasy game, following in the footsteps of the Tour de France, who launched its own league in 2018.
As Biwenger has already done in other competitions and sports disciplines, the Fantasy of La Vuelta by Carrefour will allow fans from all around the world to create their ideal teams with real cyclists participating in this edition of the Spanish tour. , users will put together a team of eight riders who will accumulate points based on their performance and results obtained during each real stage of La Vuelta 20. These points will determine the team positions in the different classifications of the Fantasy game, whether it be in private leagues or with friends or in the official public La Vuelta league where all registered users will compete.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Biwenger has been organising the official Fantasy football of the Diario AS for several seasons. In it, fans can create teams with the stars of La Liga and of the Champions League, as well as other international competitions. It has over one and a half million registered users and is the most played game, with the most users, of these characteristics in Spain.
Manuel Lanchazo, General Manager of Biwenger confesses: “We have created, with the utmost joy and enthusiasm, this first official Fantasy cycling game in Spain, in close collaboration with one of our country’s best competitions: La Vuelta. We are thrilled to offer the emotion of the Fantasy game experience to all cycling lovers through our app. Furthermore, it is a project that fits in with our strategy to offer this experience to other sports”.
AS, official La Vuelta newspaper, is a world leader in Spanish language sports media with over 17.5 million unique users in Spanish (half of the digital population in Spain -51%- consulted AS newspaper content in April). Thanks to its leadership in Spain, AS has consolidated its position as a reference in sports news on the Spanish speaking global market, with eight editions (Spain, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, USA, Argentina, Peru and America, as well as an edition in English and another in Arabic), where the project will also be promoted. Expectations are particularly encouraging in traditional cycling territories such as Colombia.
ONE MORE STEP
Pablo Osorio, Digital Manager of La Vuelta, pointed out that this agreement is a new “milestone” for the race. “It is one more step towards the growth we seek with regards to La Vuelta’s digital environment. Fantasy games allow fans to take it to the next level and follow the race as though they are the sports directors of their own teams: choosing cyclists and unique strategies for each stage”, he explained.
