Correos and Unipublic, organiser of La Vuelta, have reached an agreement making Correos the official logistics operator for La Vuelta20. This means that it will be responsible for transporting the key infrastructure of the Spanish grand tour’s 75th edition – a reallogistical challenge. Correos will transport, all over the country, over 400 tonnes of material needed for the race to run smoothly in its 36 locations (18 departures and 18 finish-lines): motorhomes, barriers, signage and security elements, among others.
The President of Correos, Juan Manuel Serrano, has assured that “in line with our support for Spanish sports, Correos puts all of its potential and experience as a logistics operator at the disposal of La Vuelta in order to accompany it to the towns and cities through which our country’s most important cycling race will pass”.
The Director of La Vuelta, Javier Guillén, pointed out the value of this agreement “with one of the most reliable public brands, with the longest trajectory”. “Spectators may not be aware of everything that moves with a race such as La Vuelta. For us, being able to rely on a company such as Correos as our partner is reassuring, and it’s a guarantee”, he added.
AN ITINERANT LOGISTICAL GIANT
As the official logistics operator, Correos will make 28 tractor units and 19 platforms available to Unipublic, and will cover almost 3000 km carrying the key materials necessary to hold the race. Among those materials, are the mobile infrastructures located at the finish-line, such as the podium, the Press Room (inflatable 375 m2 tent, installed in high-altitude finales), the signature podium, antidoping facilities, the catering truck… etc.
The La Vuelta Production and Logistics Director, Pedro Lezaun, underlined the key role that Correos will play in La Vuelta: “They will help us with all the things you never see on television but are absolutely essential”. “La Vuelta is an itinerant logistical giant. Without a quality official logistics operator, La Vuelta would not be able to take place. Correos and Unipublic have been working together for weeks to guarantee that the gears are in perfect sync so that La Vuelta 20 can be celebrated in this complicated context”, he explained.
CORREOS WILL AWARD THE BEST TEAM
Besides being the official logistics operator, Correos will be a main sponsor of La Vuelta 20, sponsoring the team classification, thatrewards the leader of the team classification each day. This ranking is established by adding the three best individual times of each team. The team with the lowest time wins.
The best team of each stage will go up on the podium the following day during the signature podium ceremony to collect their prize before the stage departure. Likewise, the team that leads this classification will wear a red bib featuring the Correos logo, which will distinguish its riders as the members of the peloton’s best squad.
A HISTORIC RELATIONSHIP
It is not the first time that Correos and Unipublic reach a sponsorship agreement. The last collaboration took place in 2004, when Correos sponsored, among other elements, the signature podium that all riders must attend before participating in each stage. This year, the La Vuelta 20 signature podium will also bear the Correos colours, which will shine yet again in the most important international cycling race held on Spanish territory.
