LA VUELTA 2021 WILL DEPART FROM BURGOS TO CELEBRATE THE CATHEDRAL’S 8th CENTENARY

La Vuelta and the Fundación VIII Centenario de la Catedral. Burgos 2021 have signed a collaboration agreement formalising the fact that Burgos will host the official departure of La Vuelta 2021 as part of the various events commemorating the Burgos cathedral turning 800 in 2021. The Castilian capital and its province will host three stages.
The event took place at the Constable’s Chapel and was attended by Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta; Fidel Herráez, President of the Fundación VIII Centenario de la Catedral. Burgos 2021; Antonio Miguel Méndez Pozo, Executive Vice-President of the Fundación VIII Centenario de la Catedral. Burgos 2021; Pablo González Cámara, President of the Metropolitan Chapter, Ángel Ibáñez, Presidency Counsellor of the Council of Castilla y León; Daniel de la Rosa, Mayor of Burgos; and César Rico, President of the Burgos Provincial Council.
The 2021 official departure will be the first La Vuelta official departure to take place in Burgos, despite the Castilian province’s close ties to the race. 15 La Vuelta stages have left from Burgos (24 in total from its province) and 17 have ended in its streets (23 in the province). The only stage to have taken place entirely within the Province of Burgos was an individual time trial (Burgos > Burgos), in La Vuelta 15, won by Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin.
