Unipublic and Comitas e-health have formalised an agreement to provide mobile radiology solutions to La Vuelta 23, which will begin in Barcelona this Saturday. This agreement will allow the race to have a mobile medical x-ray facility at each finish-line, which will be available to the riders and teams who may need it. Falls are, unfortunately, common in cycling races. The medical teams that handle these accidents promptly and efficiently will now have a key tool to help them diagnose serious lesions such as bone fractures or fissures without having to take the riders to nearby hospitals. They will also be able to rule out any possible medical issues without leaving the race area. The Comitas e-health mobile unit, equipped with a cutting-edge digital x-ray system and operated by highly experienced Comitas health professionals, will be located at each stage’s finish-line. Said unit has a large screen, which allows the medical teams in attendance to visualise the images immediately and also features all the required and officially recognised security systems, including lead-lined walls. For Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta, ‘The radiology service provided by Comitas’ mobile units, which will be located at our stage finish-lines, will be an additional and essential diagnostic tool for us. Unfortunately, falls are common in cycling events, so to be able to take x-rays near the race area allows our teams to identify bone lesions without having to travel to nearby hospitals.’ According to Aquilino Antuña, CEO of Comitas e-health, ‘This is a ground-breaking initiative in the sports world.
