Comitas’ mobile telemedicine unit: an essential part of La Vuelta

  • Over 21 stages and 3,151 kilometers, Comitas e-Health will once again deploy its Mobile Telemedicine Unit to support riders and race staff during La Vuelta.
  • The unit has already proved its worth. In the past two editions of the race, it carried out more than 200 on-site X-rays, saving over 500 hours in hospital transfers.
  • Reliability has been one of its strengths. The mobile clinic worked without a single technical issue across all stages, even in areas with little or no access to electricity. Its high-capacity batteries kept it running in remote mountain locations like the Angliru and the Tourmalet, where it operated at more than 1,800 meters above sea level.

For the third year running, Unipublic has chosen Comitas e-Health to provide this service at La Vuelta 25. Throughout the 21 stages and 3,151 kilometers of this cycling competition, the telemedicine company will deploy its Mobile Unit to care for riders in the event of a crash, as well as for the event staff.

The collaboration between Comitas e-health and La Vuelta has become an indispensable part of the race. With near-instant radiological testing available at the finish line, injuries can be assessed on the spot, avoiding unnecessary delays or transfers. A team of five Comitas professionals will be present at each stage, delivering high-quality medical attention. In the last two editions of La Vuelta, the Mobile Telemedicine Unit conducted more than 200 on-site X-rays for riders and staff, saving over 500 hours that would have been spent traveling to hospitals.

In both editions, Comitas e-health’s Mobile Unit operated flawlessly across all stages, even in areas with limited electricity. Thanks to its high-capacity batteries, the service remained continuous and reliable, reaching remote locations such as the mountain passes of Angliru and Tourmalet, where it was set up at altitudes exceeding 1,800 meters.

“La Vuelta’s Mobile Telemedicine Unit, equipped with cutting-edge imaging technology, is vital for the fast assessment and treatment of injuries,” said general director Javier Guillén. “In most cases, it avoids hospital transfers, allowing riders to get immediate care and focus on recovery. It’s an invaluable service.”

Comitas e-Health CEO Aquilino Antuña added: “Being selected for the third year in a row is an honor. Our experience shows that the unit can operate under the toughest conditions, ensuring riders get the best care possible. We remain committed to innovation and bringing advanced healthcare solutions to major sporting events.”
