- Since the start of their collaboration, it is estimated that Aquaservice has supplied over 300,000 litres of water to La Vuelta, preventing the use of 12,000 kg of single-use plastic.
- This year, Aquaservice will distribute more than 64,000 litres of water during the competition, to hydrate athletes, members of the organisation and guests that will travel with the race.
- Since 2021, Aquaservice and La Vuelta come together to make the Grand Tour cycling competition the most sustainable of its kind in the world.
- La Vuelta will take off on the 23rd of August from Turin (Italy) and will conclude on the 14th of September in Madrid, after completing 21 stages and more than 3,000 km.
Once again, La Vuelta reaffirms its commitment to sustainability thanks to its collaboration with Aquaservice, the leading company in the field of mineral water distribution with dispensers in Spain and Portugal.
To this end, for the fifth year in a row, both organisations will work together in a shared mission to promote convenient and sustainable hydration, in the aim of reducing the environmental impact of water consumption.
Since the start of their collaboration, it is estimated that Aquaservice has supplied over 300,000 litres of water to La Vuelta, preventing the use of 12,000 kg of single-use plastic – equivalent to 600,000 50 cl bottles – thanks to a circular bottled water system with dispensers.
This year, specifically, Aquaservice, as the official water supplier, will distribute more than 64,000 litres to hydrate the 3,000 people, including athletes, members of the organisation and journalists, that will travel with the three-week race, as well as the thousands of guests and other attendees that will be able to comfortably refresh themselves at the hydration stations set up by Aquaservice at the different stages. In this way, we will prevent the use of more than 2,000 kg of single-use plastic, equivalent to 128,000 bottles, in this year’s edition alone.
‘From the beginning, we have been committed to transferring our model based on a circular economy to the world of sports, with the aim of making competitions more sustainable. Collaborating with La Vuelta for these five years has not only allowed us to reduce the use of single-use plastic, but also to prove that sustainability and innovation can go hand-in-hand in large events. We are proud to continue to walk together towards a more sustainable Vuelta, one that will inspire other competitions to follow suit,’ said Margarita Baselga, Director of Marketing and Communication for Aquaservice.
Five years leading the way in sustainable sports
Aquaservice and La Vuelta have been collaborating since 2021 to promote sustainable hydration in sports. Thanks to this alliance, La Vuelta became the first Grand Tour in the professional circuit to implement a solution for the elimination of single-use plastic waste resulting from water consumption. Since 2023, Aquaservice is also the water supplier for La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.
‘At La Vuelta, we believe that sports must be a driving force for change towards a more sustainable future. Our alliance with Aquaservice has proved that it’s possible to reduce our environmental impact without compromising our organisational excellence. Five years later, we remain committed to this circular model, and hope to continue leading the way towards more environmentally friendly sporting events,’ said Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta.
Through its ‘Sustainable Sports and Culture’ programme, Aquaservice also collaborates with other sporting and cultural events with the aim of making them more sustainable. This has already been the case with such organisations and events as the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, the Goya Awards and the Feroz Awards.
La Vuelta, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, will take off on the 23rd of August from Turin (Italy) and will conclude on the 14th of September in Madrid, after completing 21 stages and more than 3,000 km.
