Vingegaard: "I would have loved to win for my teammates, for my family"

Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike): "I would have loved to win today. We did everything we could so that I would have a chance. But to be honest, I think Joao [Almeida] deserved the win today. He was super strong. I did what I could. He deserves the win but of course I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t win here. I knew already on the second last climb that he wanted to go for the win, because he put his team on the front and they’re doing super well. Also my team did super well, pulling the whole day. I’m a bit sorry for my teammates that I couldn’t finish it off. Now I have to focus more on Joao rather than the other guys, so that’s something I can be happy about, but as I said I would have loved to win today for my teammates, for my family. It’s L’Angliru, it’s a very special climb, and anybody would love to win here."
