La Vuelta continues to explore new horizons within the American continent. Following the announcement early last year of the launch of a new Desafío in Mexico, it is now the turn of the Desafío Brasil by La Vuelta. In collaboration with the municipality of Cabreúva, the emblematic Estrada dos Romeiros —a habitual route for cyclists and triathletes— will be the setting of this first edition, to be held on the 6th and 7th of December, 2025.
The competition will take place over two days: the first will consist of a 30-kilometre team time trial; the second will be a linear stage where riders will choose between two distances: 50 or 100 kilometres. Both routes will include prizes for the general classification and by age groups (for the longer distance), as well as special timed segments that will serve to crown the King and Queen of the Mountain.
Designed to offer a unique experience to cyclists and fans, alike, Desafío Brasil by La Vuelta marks a milestone on Brazil’s amateur calendar by introducing a road race centred on team competition for the first time, inspired on the classic format of the great European tours. Participants will be able to feel like true professionals: they will receive an official kit with an exclusive jersey, customised decals and a timekeeping chip, and will also have medical and mechanic assistance as well as hydration zones all along the route.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the event seeks to have a positive impact on the region: to promote sports tourism, encourage cycling and boost the local economy of Cabreúva and its surrounding area.
‘Our event continues its international growth with the birth of Desafío Brasil by La Vuelta. We have important historical relations with Latin America and, to be present in a country like Brazil, is further proof of our commitment to take the universe of La Vuelta far beyond our borders,’ said Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta. ‘I’m sure that Brazil will give us a warm welcome and, despite being thousands of kilometres from Spain, we’ll feel right at home,’ he added.
