Martin: “I'm happy that a Frenchman won the stage”

Guillaume Martin (Cofidis): “I couldn't spend the last stage of La Vuelta without attacking after what I did before. Today was my seventh breakaway of the race. Unfortunately I may have attacked too much. I was too tired to play for the stage victory today. Anyway I'm happy with my Vuelta with the king of the mountains jersey. The race has been attractive with all those attacks. I knew at the bottom of the last climb that one breakaway rider would win the stage. At that moment I was still hoping that it could be myself. I tried to follow David Gaudu but I put myself in the red zone. At the end I'm happy that a Frenchman won the stage.”
