Customary rest area for La Vuelta in the North of Spain, Santander is a key axis in the Northern area. With 41 departures and 35 finish-lines in La Vuelta’s history, the Cantabrian capital has been present in the race since its inaugural edition in 1935. In 2021, however, Santander will signify rest for the peloton, and will be more necessary than ever. The final week of racing is expected to be extremely tough, with constant leg-breaker terrain and two consecutive high-altitude Asturian finales: Lagos de Covadonga and the Altu d’El Gamoniteiru.
