Europcar celebrates its 13th year as an official supplier of La Vuelta, strengthening its commitment to ‘green’ mobility: for the first time, over 40% of the fleet will be plug-in hybrids.
Javier Guillén, Director of La Vuelta, and Tobías Zisik, General Director of Europcar Mobility Group in Spain and Portugal, signed an agreement today to renew their collaboration for this year’s edition of the race.
This year, La Vuelta, that will take off from Utrecht on the 19th of August, will leave a lighter environmental and acoustic footprint than ever: out of the more than 140 vehicles ceded by the company, over 40% will be plug-in hybrids. These will be the models used by La Vuelta to transport the organisation, the media, the organisation’s medical vehicles and the sponsors that travel with the race every day.
‘La Vuelta continues to work towards becoming an increasingly sustainable event. During the three weeks of racing, we transport a large fleet of vehicles and, with the help of Europcar, we will do so in a way that is more environmentally conscious,’ explained Javier Guillén.
Europcar: an increasingly green fleet.
The car rental company has launched the programme ‘A sustainable fleet’ with one main objective: environmentally friendly vehicles (those that emit less than 50 g of CO2/km) will represent at least 20% of its total fleet of cars and vans all over the world by the end of 2024. According to Zisik, Spain is nearing this objective: ‘today, the company already has 1,500 electric and hybrid vehicles available for its clients, the largest fleet of this kind in the country’s car rental sector.’
Thanks to this commitment, the company has been the first mobility service company whose carbon reduction objectives have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), the association promoted by the United Nations Global Compact.
