Carapaz: "It would be nice to wear the polka dots in Madrid"

Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers): "In the Tour, it was different, I really wanted to wear [the mountain jersey]. Here it was a bit of a bad race situation, because the leader of the mountain crashed and so did my teammate Carlos [Rodriguez]. The truth is that at first I wasn't going to fight for the KOM, we were a lot of points behind and it didn't make sense to fight for that. Also, it has been difficult. Maybe you don't want to take it like that, like it was today. I just hope Vine recovers soon. In the end, we saw that we couldn't make it and the team told me to stop and to help Carlos, because he was losing 20 seconds. I have tried to help him as much as I could, I think Carlos had a very bad time today. Now we have a jersey and I think it will be nice to wear it to Madrid. If I can take it home, much better!"
