Remco Evenepoel: "I can be very proud"

"Yesterday was a really difficult day, and also the evening. I couldn’t sleep too much, I had a very bad night, with a lot of negative thoughts in my head. Today I woke up and I told myself: ‘just go for it, make the most of it’. I did a recon of this stage because it was an important stage for the GC. I knew perfectly knew how the climbs were, how hard they were, because it was a really tough stage. It’s just super nice to take a second stage win. The first hour of racing was full gas. I was feeling pretty good, always in the mix. I ended up alone in the front group but then Mattia Cattaneo joined us and he set a strong pace on the first climb. Juanpe Lopez attacked, I countered and we were in the front with only Romain [Bardet]. The gap got bigger on the descent and we worked really well together. I said I was gonna do the pace on the climbs as long as he was gonna collaborate with me on the flat. I can be very proud with this answer after yesterday. The mountain jersey and some stage wins, I think that’s some nice goals towards Madrid."
