“I think the organisation did this stage to have echelons. The weather is what it is and the wind was not strong enough. We arrived in the same situation as we started, so I’m happy.
I have really bad memories [from Calar Alto in 2017] because I was sick that day. We are always joking with my masseur, Juan José Lobato; he was a sprinter, and normally I should climb better than him but that day we were together and he’s always laughing about it. Tomorrow I hope I can enjoy the last climbs and still wear the leader’s jersey up there.”
