Oscar Onley: "I will keep this Vuelta in my memory for a long time"

"It’s been a long three weeks I guess. There’s always a lot of tension and stress around the race, especially when you’re going for GC; so it feels nice and it feels a bit a relief to finish now. To be honest, the team we’ve had here has been unbelievable actually, not only the way we’ve ridden, but just the atmosphere we’ve had off the bike and around the dinner table at night. It’s something I will keep in my memory for a long time. You can’t force these things, but when it clicks and it comes naturally it’s something really special. I’ve really enjoyed that.

I wouldn’t say I’ve had any regrets. There has been some setbacks, but not from things that were really in my control. I got a bit sick in the first week, and then I had a couple of crashes which is obviously never ideal. I think the way myself and the team made plans around getting back to my normal state was something I took a lot of learning from. I think it’s fair to say this has been not a great season for me, so just to finish the Vuelta is already a success. And obviously to be on a decent level for the three weeks is also nice. It gives me a lot of motivation and confidence going forward."
