"It’s better than a normal day job! It’s fantastic. First Grand Tour, second one in the bag. And you could see throughout the day everyone just went full so I’m just very thankful to finish it off again. I think the boys are also quite relieved.
The finale was pretty spot on to be fair. We had two boys pulling on front until the final few kilometres. And then Wout [van Aert] and Christophe [Laporte] are the best guys in the world for this type of things. They supported me all the way. In the last corner, I lost my wheel a bit. The paint was a bit slippery, but thankfully I stayed safe. Christophe felt that as well and managed it really well. I’m glad we could finish with my arms in the air.
I’m a sprinter but I can climb a little bit. On this type of terrain, it works really nicely, especially with the support that I have here. Even Stevie [Kruijswijk] and Bruno [Armirail], these guys are just so strong. When you’ve got these guys with you, it gives you the confidence to achieve more."
