“The last 30 kilometres were chaotic and also super hard. It was like a never ending uphill part, dragging up slightly all the time. We had a plan today to try and control the race. In the end, we succeeded, but we had to use the whole team to make it a bunch sprint. Therefore I’m really proud that we did it but on the other hand I found myself alone in the final kilometre and it was complicated to have a good position. There was not much left in the legs in the last 300 metres unfortunately. It was definitely plan A to sprint with me. It was a super hard day with a lot of uphill parts, which suits suits me well. It was a good opportunity for me, so that was plan A. But honestly, if I don’t feel good it’s such a luxury that we can spwitch roles and also Matty [Brennan] is a good chance on a sprint like this. We will hopefully continue like this and with how the team is going we will be successful also this week.”
