"It’s tough. In the end, I wanted to win the stage. Today I lost, and it was a close call. But that’s how it goes – there was a stronger rider, Brenner, and I congratulate him. As for me, I’ll keep fighting. It was a bit of an odd climb with a headwind at the start. Nobody wanted to burn themselves out. Then, on the tough section, that’s where I wanted to make my move, and I broke away, but once again, the road opened up with a headwind. There were lots of attacks. I think it must have looked good on the telly. And in the end, the fastest rider won. I knew the lad from Tudor was going to be the fastest in the sprint. I decided to go for it early, but it didn’t work out."
