“It was a hard finale for someone who had been in the breakaway. I had to make quite a big effort before I was caught. It was also quite fun. I figured I wouldn’t go down without a bit of a fight. I didn’t have much left for such a hard finish. Even for the positioning, I didn’t really have the legs to move any further forward than I was. It’s a shame, but it’s nice to try. It would have been really nice to have La Roja. You don’t get many opportunities in Grand Tours. I thought sprinting myself it would be quite difficult to be in the top 3, so I thought I had nothing to lose.”
