Izaguirre: “We have to keep going like that”

Jon Izaguirre (Bahrain-Merida): “I’ve evaluated the strengths of the riders here. It’s very close. I felt really good today. I already said at the beginning I was here to fight for the general classification, that I felt good, and now we’ll see how we fare. I don’t even know how I’m surviving through this heat, I really don’t like it. But I’m just suffering like everyone. We had established with the team we’d let Vincenzo (Nibali) go eaasy because he was not lining up at 100%, recovering from his crash at the Tour. So I was coming as the leader and it’s going well so far. We have to keep going like that but La Vuelta is long and we have to manage our energy. It looks like those days don’t make differences but they’ll have an impact later on.”
