"[What Remco Evenepoel did] is really impressive. It’s a nice way to bounce back after yesterday and I’m happy for him that he could get a win after yesterday maybe being a disappointing day. Hats off to him. We knew he would be motivated to attack but we weren’t particularly worried about the breakaway today, we just had to focus on staying together because we knew the second climb, Larrau, would be tricky if riders in general attacked there, but we kept it under control and it all stayed together to the finish. We knew that it was one of the better chances [for rivals] to try something, especially with how hard the first two climbs were, so close together. [UAE Team Emirates] did a really impressive stage but all three of us were there and guys like Attila [Valter] and Robert [Gesink] came back so we were always in a good place as a team."
